We are now Washingtonians

Wine’In Texas apologizes for being MIA lately! This was not by choice, but due to us relocating to Seattle, WA for work. It has been a busy summer full of travel. From traveling for work which would include: Dallas, TX; Tucson, AZ; Austin, TX; Memphis, TN; Washington D.C.; New York, NY; New Jersey, Denver, CO; Baltimore, MD Daytona, FL; Houston, TX and more. Then, there is the travel for our dear friend’s weddings in: Sumner, WA; Ashville, NC; Maple Valley, WA; St. Louis, MO and Renton, WA.  As well as a much needed late sumer vacation to Maui. We have also been working to settle into our new home in Queen Anne. Carmen grew up in Washington as well so we have been spending time with family as we are getting settled into Carmen’s old stomping grounds.

Though our journey has been a busy one with unexpected turns along the way, Wine’In Texas will be staying true to our brand and the roots which brought us together. With the plans of opening our wine bar which the location might have changed, but the image is still the same. Now we want to take a personal approach to the blog and speak a little about the fun steps it takes not only moving across the country together, but moving in together for the first time. We took the opportunity to experience the real inner city Seattle style living in a “vintage” apartment that dates back to the 20’s. Living in the inner city Seattle life has provided us, or better yet say, not provided us with, a dish washer, washer and dryer or A/C. Though this may seem dated, we have come to the conclusion of knowing one day we will be able to experience the luxury lifestyle of having a dishwasher, washer and dryer and A/C again. Through living with the chaos of learning how to live minimally and organizing our first home, there is always the one aspect that brings us together… you guessed it, Wine. So we will continue this passion even though our location may have changed. This is what brings us together after many long travels and days of work.

Seattle, WA

Now many unexpected turns have occurred from this move including learning to live without a washer and dryer (Yes, we pay in quarters in the basement), dishwasher (Yup, that’s right, we get to battle for who hand washes the dishes each night) and A/C (truly enjoying each others natural glow when it’s time to sleep). Now you are probably thinking why would you live in a place like this? Well let us tell you…location, location, location. In order to live in an acceptable nice zip code in Seattle that is clean, safe and has the amenities we want outside of the apartment, you need to make sacrifices. To lose these amenities provides us the ability to live in Upper Queen Anne and for those that are not familiar, this is a hill looking over the gorgeous view of downtown Seattle, the sound, and the Cascade mountains, but most importantly, our landmark Mount Rainer. Our apartment has historic crown molding in each room, hardwood flooring, and a view from each main window and bedroom that would take your breath away. That is what makes it worth the luxury sacrifices from above.

When it came to furnishing our home we were lucky to add to the apartment’s historic charm with finding vintage family pieces to add into our home. A few items would be Jean-Claude’s antique buffet dating back to the 1800s and Carmen’s formal family dinning room table. By bringing these pieces in they were also able to merge memories from our families.

For us 2019 has truly been an unforgettable summer for us, and one of the busiest. The one thing that continues to motivate and bring us drive during this time is the support we have from our family and friends but most importantly the support from one another. Although life is the busiest it has been for the both of us we still find time for one another and our friends. With family dinners in our tiny apartment to indoor sky diving (you all should really check this out Ifly), to catching up with family and friends from the time Carmen has spent away from WA. From all of this time do not worry we have not forgotten about our readers – we have been building up wine stories, attending wineries and the best 20 dollar bottles of Washington wines to add to your collection. We understand certain times in life we want to splurge and other times you need to budget, for a home, small business, your family etc.
