A glass a day keeps the doctor away right? Nope, it’s definitely a bottle.

1. Drexel House Eatery & Wine Bar

Located in the River Oaks district of Houston, TX with this vision: “If…you’re a couple desiring a romantic evening with a great bottle of wine, we have what you’re looking for.” We had passed this location multiple times but we were never truly drawn into the wine bar. It is pushed back into the corner of the Highland Shopping center, when entering inside it is a small bar with an area to sit outside, however it is right on the street with the view being the back of Crate and Barrel. We ordered a cheese and charcuterie board, that had pairing suggestions for wine. The prices were reasonable ranging from 3 for $14, 6 for $20 or all options for $42. The wine selection however, was subpar compared to the other bars on this list and there were no unique finds in our opinion especially for the price listed. For pricing a 3oz. poor was $9, when looking on Vivino (the best wine app ever) it was a $10 bottle. This is our least favorite spot out of the 5 mentioned, if your looking for an unpretentious spot to explore your palate we would not recommend this location, possibly better suited as a lunch spot.

The Tasting Room is a local Wine bar in Uptown Houston that offers a vast variety of wine, however when we came here the service was extremely slow and not welcoming. If you are looking for a more intimate place to enjoy wine, we would not recommend this location. However, with the atmosphere and good vibes, this would be a great place to take friends outside and enjoy live music or host a company event or private dinner party in one of there themed rooms. This location prides itself on being one of the largest wine bars in the nation coming in at 9,000 sq. feet.

Coming in next is Beckrew which was awarded the Wine bar to take over “The Tasting Room” in Uptown according to Eater Houston. This wine bar brings the intimate charm that The Tasting Room was missing. The environment is welcoming and the wine is even better. With a knowledgeable staff and vast variety this location is the perfect first date spot! When it comes to price this is on the high end of all the locations we have listed in this review. However the variety in the menu is worth the splurge.
4. Cru

This is a common wine bar located in the South with a variety of locations and common ground that if you come here you can find good wine, great bites, and even better, a great happy hour! This is located in the Upper Kirby area of Houston in an outdoor shopping area and is a great place to grab some happy hour with a friend. Bring your date and enjoy multiple flights. This place is about consistency, if you are looking for variety you won’t necessarily find that here. But this is a good go to place, with great employees that truly make the experience enjoyable. If you are looking to start out wine tasting and looking for a place to begin, we would recommend bringing friends to Cru and on another note they have half off bottles on Sunday!
This is hands down our favorite local Wine Bar in the area. If it’s not the rustic atmosphere, knowledgeable and welcoming staff, or the vast variety of Wine’s available with the wine selection changing daily. Camerata is the steady go to for us and is a place where we have come to find inspiration when creating our vision for Wine’In Texas. Now what does Camerata mean? This was a term used during the Renaissance in Florence, Italy meaning “a room or chamber for others to gather.” That is what the owner has done here giving locals a place to mingle and learn the history of the wine they are drinking. They strive themselves on being a place of learning, be it wine, literature or history. This is located in the Montrose area of Houston and if you are in the area you cannot miss out on visiting here. Also, if you are hungry for dinner, next store is their Restaurant “Paulies.” This location does blind flight tastings, wine trivia and courses. We hope our readers stop by here soon!
